Long ago, among the hills and lakes, there was a land where grain, honey and beer were not lacking. The locals were masters in brewing classic beer styles, and thanks to their travels and new ideas they were not alien to them.
Once the news spread that the borders began to be entwined with vines of hops, an unusual hops, otherwise fragrant, coming from across the sea. The beers brewed with it magically made the lands that used it famous, but people said that the more it was used, the more tightly it wrapped around the kingdoms infatuated with it, so that no one could get outside.
The wise ruler of the land of forests and lakes summoned a master brewer… He said he knew the recipe for a unique beer that could reverse the curse, but he lacked the last ingredient. The ruler therefore sent for the daredevils and ordered them to find this unique ingredient.
So they went in search to the four corners of the world. Many did not pass through the dense hop thickets, and those who did could not find the ingredient. The inhabitants of the land were losing hope, and the hop thickets were entwining it more and more.
Until the beginning of autumn, the bravest, cleverest and most rebellious of daredevils returned. He had returned from a small mountainous land with navy blue slopes, smelling of smoked meat and sweetness that no one in the kingdom had known before. The land stretched near a place called Sechna. Its inhabitants gave him a supply of their plum called Sechlonska Suska and said that its taste could stop the threat.
The ruler handed over a purse full of plums to a brewer who went to the brewery and did not return for a very long time. What he brewed in secret required the utmost craftsmanship, and the slightest mistake could ruin the chance to reverse the curse. Then, in the middle of winter, the brewer returned carrying in his hand a pint of imperial Baltic porter richly flavored with Sechlońska Suska.
As soon as the locals tasted the beer, the hop thickets turned into a beautiful hop tree. There was no end to the joy, and the news about the land, the drink, the wonderful plum and the heroic daredevil spread around the world. The beer itself, in honor of the place where this mysterious ingredient was discovered, was called IMPERIUM PRUNUM.
