March beer (German: Märzen, Märzenbier, Oktoberfestbier) – strong seasonal bottom-fermented lager beer. March beer comes from Germany and is the most popular there.
March beer is produced in the first weeks of spring, mainly in March (hence its name) from the last stocks of last year’s stored malt. Then it is aged throughout spring and summer until September.
March beer, as having a long storage period, was previously a traditional beer served during the Munich Oktoberfest (hence its second popular name Oktoberfestbier).
