PRODUCENT - St. Idesbald
Beer brewing is a centuries-old tradition at the Appelhoek site in Melle. The local art of brewing beer dates back to the 17th century. In 1902, a certain Léon Huyghe starts working at the local brewery. In the following years, Léon introduces the old mammoth to modernity and proud, in 1989, a pink baby elephant is born. In 1925, Léon Huyghe joins the brewery with his son Albert and son-in-law Louis, and the brewery is officially renamed L. Huyghe Brewery. Today, Alain De Laet, a fourth-generation Huyghe, mixes in the brewhouses. A small elephant from ancient times has grown into a strong Belgian mastodon.
