In Napoleon’s time, Pauwel Kwak was a brewer and owner of the inn “De Hoorn” in Dendermonde. Mail carts stopped there every day. But at that time, the coachmen could not leave the carriage and horses in order to quench their thirst together with the passengers. As a result, the ingenious innkeeper had special blown glass from the Kwak company, which could be hung on a carriage.
In this way, the coachman safely had his Kwak beer at hand. Today, Kwak is one of the few surviving historical Belgian beers and is still served with respect for tradition in its original glass of Kwak. Recognizable, unique and just as characteristic as the taste of the beer itself.
