Beer from Val Dieu is synonymous with quality and authenticity. It is the only Belgian abbey beer that is 100% brewed in a live abbey such as the famous Belgian Trappist beers.
The monks of Val Dieu Abbey are the ones who are the founders of the beers that are brewed in this place today. Historically, Cistercian monks were famous for their brewing qualities. The monks of Val Dieu fit into this reputation.

The development of the brewing business was initially caused by the need to boil drinking water, as diseases such as dysentery, cholera and typhus predominated. For centuries, monks have studied the development of yeast and the fermentation process. They improved the production of beer, creating more and more sophisticated recipes. The beers brewed today in Val Dieu are inspired by original recipes developed by monks. Beers are still produced in a typical second fermentation process in bottles.
