It all started in the 17th century when a Welshman, Sir Henry Morgan, sailed to the West Indies and stayed on a tropical island in the Caribbean. He was well respected by his crew and made a name for himself in every port he stopped at, to the point of becoming governor of Jamaica, he lived as an incredibly wealthy man drinking rum on his sugar plantation where he remained until his death in 1688. The company decided to name their product after him because of his "legend and character", which the marauding pirate certainly had, as well as his extensive and not necessarily flattering achievements.
