Orval beer is a top-fermented beer. The aging process adds a fruity note that provides a subtle balance between the full but complex taste of beer and bitterness.
The beer was first brewed in 1931 and owes its unparalleled taste to the quality of the water, hops and yeast used. The brewery has selected very aromatic and unique hop varieties, which refer to the first brewer from Orval, coming from Bavaria. The aromas of the beer are very clear while maintaining the right level of bitterness thanks to the English dry hopping method.
The different stages of fermentation – combined fermentation on the original yeast and wild yeast, followed by bottle fermentation – mean that the beer has to age for some time and requires numerous quality controls.
