Piraat Special Reserve (Rum Barrel Aged) is brewed at the Van Steenberge Brewery. Brewed in honor of the original sailors of the 19th century, Piraat Ale seemed made for aging in rum barrels. This Belgian classic and perennially gold-medal-winning beer is aged in barrels for the first time since its inception. With an alcohol content of 10.5%, the beer has a rich malt profile that creates flavors of country bread and dried fruit. Thanks to its secondary fermentation in the bottle, Piraat has always been considered one of the smoothest beers with a high alcohol content. By aging it in rum barrels, the beer gains notes of vanilla that give it an even more rounded flavor, without overpowering the spicy character that made Piraat famous.
