The capital of the Belgian bier blanche is the town of Hoegaarden in Brabant, where in the eighteenth century there were approx. 30 small breweries, brewing mainly wheat beers. However, the development of pilsner beers led to the cessation of witbier production. In 1957. The last brewery brewing witbiers, the Tomsin brewery from Hoegaarden, was closed. However, already in 1966. Pierre Celis – a brewer from Hoegaarden opened a brewery in his own home, where he decided to reactivate this style. He named it the same as the town he came from, Hoegaarden.
