It is a traditional Lambic beer, produced according to an authentic method that is under European protection. Oude Geuze is a mixture of lambics from different years aged on wooden barrels. Oud Beersel Oude Geuze stands out for its distinct fruity character and hoppy notes. The Oude Geuze Vandervelden series is a tribute to the founder of Oud Beersel, Henri Vandervelden, who founded the brewery in 1882. The brewery was called Vandervelden until 1954, when his grandson, also Henri Vandervelden, who took over the brewery in 1953, changed its name to Oud Beersel in response to what he called the changed and “new Brussels”.
