Since 2007, brewers at Duvel have been busy innovating the third hop variety to give Duvel a surprising twist and extra bitterness. Every spring, this results in the launch of the unique Tripel Hop, which complements the rest of the Duvel range.
Six Tripel Hops later, in 2016, Duvel set out in search of the best Duvel Tripel Hop. More than 5,000 fans tasted and voted, and Citra was definitely the favorite. Duvel Tripel Hop with zither not only won the gold medal at the Brussels Beer Challenge, but was also awarded the consumer trophy at the Zythos Beer Festival.
When creating Tripel Hop, our brewers not only add a third variety of hops, but we also use a special dry hopping process. In this case, in addition to adding ordinary hops during the cooking process, additional hop cones are added at a later stage of the brewing process (during the aging process). This intensifies and refines the hop aromas in the finished beer. Aromatic third hops are grown in Washington’s Yakima Valley and enrich the palate with fresh notes of grapefruit and tropical fruits.

PRODUCENT - Duvel
In addition to pure spring water, which is the main ingredient of beer, barley is the most important raw material. The barley must germinate for five days in the malting house, after which the malt remains. The color of malt, and therefore of beer, depends on the temperature. Duvel gets its typical bitterness by adding different varieties of aromatic Slovenian and Czech hops. We use only exclusive hops, which are famous for their consistently excellent quality.
