Lindemans Kriek Lambic Beer – Belgium

More than 35 years ago, Lindemans reinvented the kriek. It was a hit!

We’ve said before that our family never does anything the way other people do. Kriek Lindemans is a good example of this. To get beer like no other, we have been adding whole cherries to our lambic for generations.

Our meeting with the American importer Charles Finkel in the 70s revolutionized the segment of fruit beers. Charles persuaded us to take our old kriek to the United States by boat. We did not think about the fact that the movement of the waves reactivates the fermentation process and causes traffic jams to crack during the journey. It was like something out of Tintin’s Adventures. To prevent this, we have developed an alternative production method for our kriek. We use fresh, not from concentrate, unsweetened cherry filtrate, which we mix with at least one year lambic before fermentation and maceration up to 3 days and pasteurization of the entire batch. So traffic jams do not pop up.

Thanks to the use of filtrate and pasteurization, this kriek is sweeter and fruitier than Old Kriek Cuvée René, which undergoes a second fermentation process in the bottle. Thanks to its innovative taste, it has been a huge success both in Belgium and around the world. Nowadays, this is undoubtedly a reference for consumers.

Like other Lindemans beers, this filtered kriek is made on the basis of lambic. However, the difference lies in the maceration of 25% of the fresh cherry filtrate before filtration and pasteurization of beer.

TASTE: Wonderfully fruity with fresh taste of freshly picked cherries. Its sharp and full taste gives way to the perfect balance between sweetness and sourness.

Good to know: In 1985, Michael Jackson (the most famous beer expert of our time) proclaimed Kriek Lindemans one of the five best beers in the world.
