Due to the growing demand for Japanese-made whisky, in 1972 a new distillery specializing in grain whisky – Chita Distillery – was established. This venture was managed by Keizo Saji, Suntory’s second master blender. Grain whiskey from Chita has become a staple ingredient in excellent Japanese blends, such as Hibiki. However, it was not until 6 years ago that the first bottle of Japanese single grain bearing its name – Chita – left the distillery.
Suntory The Chita Single Grain Whisky is made on the basis of corn. Distillates are aged in 3 different types of barrels – bourbon, sherry and Spanish wine. The taste of this exceptionally interesting whisky was described by Suntory’s master blender – Shinji Fukuyo, literally translated as “the calmness of Japanese whiskey”. It is extremely balanced, elegant and delicate. It enchants with aromas of honey and flowers, deep but mild taste and a clear finish with accents of fruit, spices and oak barrel.
