Amager 10. beer anniversary – Mafia Series. Double maceration of the Ukrainian imperial stout. Dario Daddano’s path to fame and fortune has not always been easy. To become the undisputed boss of the Chicago Outfit, it took a lot of tactical skill and smooth talk. And when that wasn’t enough, Dario was known and threatened by letting his Thompson Annihilator do the talking – 900 shots per minute. His temperament was known to be dark, like his Calabrian complexion. Nevertheless, very few people knew that Prohibition had ignited Dario’s interest. An interest that only his wife Marianne and a handful of his immediate family knew about: Dario started brewing beer at home. He drank Canadian moonshine at the club with the boys, but he missed his beer terribly. In addition, he was starting to get tired of mafia life with all the constant quarrels. So when a Russian friend from an affiliated gang told him about the type of beer he once drank in his cold and frosty country, Dario immediately felt curious. A beer designed to be rich and warming for those bony chilly St. Petersburg winter nights. So, in the kitchen of Dario’s South Side estate, this unlikely duo accidentally created what was probably the first Russian imperial stout ever brewed in Chicago. A beer so rich, powerful and delicious that it simply couldn’t stay a secret for long. Soon after, Dario retired as Don, happily handing over responsibility. Instead, he opened the brewery company Daddano & Dadolnikov with his Russian friend; thus becoming one of the true pioneers of the American brewing craft.
