St. Bernardus Prior 8 is a traditional monastery beer, brewed in a classic dubbel style. The original recipe dates back to the times when we brewed under license for monks Westvleteren.
Colour: This delicious beer is chestnut-brown, exudes a deep red glow and presents a charmingly rounded foam.
Nature, taste, aromas: St.Bernardus Prior 8 stands out for its fruity aroma, reminiscent of the fruits of trees such as red apples, but complemented by exotic accents of figs and dates. The whole is perfectly complemented by the impression of caramel and roasted malt. The full taste is equally malty and fruity and achieves the perfect balance between bitter and sweet.
Cuisine: it’s an easy beer to eat. Its strong character goes easily with tasty, rich dishes such as stews and meat dishes with creamy sauces. Despite its strength, this Prior 8 also serves very well as an aperitif.

PRODUCENT - St. Bernardus
The brewing process of St.Bernardus beers begins with the addition of water to the brewing kettle and then some malt: barley, which has sprouted before being ground in the mill. We only use two types of malt. Pale malt is an ingredient in all our beers, but if we brew brown beers, dark roasted malt is also added to the brewhouse. This infusion is heated gradually over an hour and a half until it reaches a temperature of 78°. This process is also known as "scuffing". At this stage of the process, the malt is converted into fermentable sugars. Good to know: for our Witbier (white beer) we use light malt and wheat.
