Gloryville was an ideal American city founded in rural Maryland in 1952. Senator Joseph McCarthy is said to have been behind him, while FBI chief J. Edgar Hoover handled all the practical matters. Most of the funding came from federal sources, although a few private companies in the toothpaste and automotive industries proudly sponsored the city. The inhabitants of Gloryville were all white, married couples, preferably of Anglo-Saxon or Scandinavian descent. No people of color, and they were all church-going Protestants. Although McCarthy himself was a Catholic, he always claimed that “there is less trouble with Protestants.” The whole idea of Gloryville was to prove that, given the right circumstances, people could live happy, carefree lives without falling into excesses such as labor unions, communism, or the Democratic Party. Amager Bryghus is a Danish microbrewery located on the island of Amager. It was founded in 2007 by Morten Valentin Lundsbak and Jacob Storm in an old warehouse formerly owned by the Church of Scientology. His first beer to make the Ratebeer Top 50 list was an Imperial Stout called Hr. Frederiksen. This particular beer was created to celebrate a friend of the owners, Peter Frederiksen, who helped them set up the brewery throughout the year. Thanks to the success of Mr. Frederiksen, they established cooperation with Shelton Brothers and began exporting to the United States. Since 2009, they have been on the list of the 100 best Ratebeer breweries.
